Wenn Du da schon neu aufsetzen musst: Warum eine VM und kein LXC?
Die sind deutlich schlanker, gehen sparsamer mit den Ressourcen um und starten schneller.@codierknecht hatte mir mal die Geschichte mit VMs angewöhnt, weil sie in sich geschlossene Systeme sind und das durchreichen von USB Geräten um einiges einfacher geht.

Da ist alles gut und aktuell bis auf NodeJs logischerweise. Da hab ich 20.16.0.
Sonst ist alles auf dem aktuellsten Stand. Den iOBroker selbst so wie die Umgebung hab ich auch ständig geupdated.

Mein ioBroker braucht keine USB-Geräte. Darum läuft der 1a als LXC. -

Dann ist das noch nicht gänzlich gestorben... QNAP hat da schon komplett auf LXD Container umgestellt, unterstützt allerdings noch laufende LXC Container

Ich weiß was zu tun ist und hab auch gelernt öfter mal das Betriebssystem zu checken und ggf hochzuziehen.
Da bin ich halt Apple verwöhnt… das sagt mir halt wenn es Zeit is zu updaten. Wenn man eben wenig mit Linux macht, kann sowas halt auch mal passieren. -

@asgothian Du kannst ja jederzeit hochziehen. Darfst halt nicht den passenden Zeitpunkt dafür verpassen. Die Karawane zieht ja nur weiter, der Support ist ja für das jeweilige stable release gewährt. Wenn du weißt was du wann tun musst/kannst dann auch über Jahre/Jahrzehnte hinweg.
LTS (5 Jahre) und ELTS (10 Jahre, musste allerdings dann zukaufen) gibt es ja auch noch für Debian. Nur ist das nix für Systeme, bei denen andere Software im Upstream weiterzieht. Beim ioBroker z. Aber ich finde es irritierend das es inzwischen als 'ok' angesehen wird das ein System nur für 2 oder 3 Jahre für einen Endnutzer stabil zu nutzen ist, und das Abwärtskompatibilität und Langzeit-Nutzbarkeit kaum noch ein Thema ist.

Kannst ja Arch oder Gentoo Linux verwenden.
Aber das ist dann naturgemäß nicht 'stabil', da ändern sich "am laufenden Band" die Schnittstellen und Software die letzte Woche noch lief funktioniert plötzlich mit der gerade frisch veröffentlichten libxys nicht mehr und muss angepasst werden.
Das haste mit Debian 'stable' halt nicht. Einmal veröffentlicht ist hat das Ding für mindestens 3 Jahre stabile APIs.
Fluch und Segen zugleich. Aber halt der beste Kompromiss aus Aktualität und Stabilität. Einen Tod musste halt sterben, 'top aktuell' und 'rockstable' schließt sich aus. -

Es muss einfach nur eine neue Version installiert werden, wozu man eben ein klein wenig Hand anlegen muss.
Das hat man bei der ersten Inbetriebnahme ja auch hinbekommen.
Nichts muss weggeworfen/verschrottet/neu gekauft werden, sondern es gibt aus offziellen und gut dokumentierten Quellen eine aktuelle Software. Der Support ist weiterhin vom "Hersteller" geleistet, dem du dafür nichtmal Geld geben musstest.
Von daher finde ich den Begriff 'geplante Obsoleszenz' hier nicht ganz zutreffend.
