Node.js update
-
@thomas-braun Here is what I received from Mint support:
Linux Mint 19.1 has reached end of life 2 months ago, so it's good to upgrade it. SO you'll keep getting security updates again for your software. The newest version of node.js on Linux Mint is 12 but you can add the NodeSource PPA on Linux Mint 20.x or 21.x to get node.js 18 (or newer). The instructions are here: https://github.com/nodesource/distribut ... /README.md. Use the Ubuntu instructions. So on Linux Mint 20.x or 21.x you would run this to add node.js 18.x: CODE: SELECT ALL curl -fsSL https://deb.nodesource.com/setup_18.x | sudo -E bash - &&\ sudo apt-get install -y nodejs To upgrade from Linux Mint 19.1 to 20.x or 21.x you can follow the instructions here: viewtopic.php?t=235992. First upgrade to 19.3, then to 20 and if you want upgrade further to 20.3 and then 21. You can see till when each release is supported here: https://linuxmint.com/download_all.php. It will be some work to upgrade, and especially going from 19.3 to 20 is a hassle. Upgrading between major releases is easier and more reliable from 20 to 21. Still, because you're 2 major releases behind it may be recommended to instead do a fresh install of Linux Mint 21.x.
I am wondering if it will be better to switch to different Linux version like Ubuntu. How difficult is to port ioBroker to new Linux installation?

Easy. Backup your current installation, change your OS to a current distribution (I recommend Debian 12 'Bookworm' for running a server), install a plain ioBroker and install your backup. Very easy with the Backitup-Adapter.

diffi...what?
backup with backitup
install new OS
install iobroker and the latest recommended node with one line
install vis if you use it, because of an actual bug
restore the backup
drink a cup of coffee or what you prefer
ready -
@thomas-braun Sounds doable. Just to be safe I will do it on differed solid state drive in my controller.
My system recovered but I see two issues:
- Not able to start VIS, getting message
File edit.html not found: {}
- When updating adapters getting error 25. Tried to follow https://forum.iobroker.net/topic/57337/fehler-25-217-oder-enotempty-bei-adapter-install-update/2 still having error 25

i stall vis if you use it, because of an actual bug
You have to install vis prior to restoring your backup. Known issue.
- Error 25 ist very generic, it can have a lot of causes for this error.
Try
iob stop iob fix iob start
-
- Assuming that I have to delete VIS adapter and add it back. Will all my screens stay in the system?
- Tried this, did not help.
iob stop iob fix iob start

What do you mean by "Restore your backup again."? I did not do nor restore backup
-
I thought you did change your operating system?
-
@thomas-braun Not yet, it will take me a while

Then take your time and come again when done.

Don't delete the vis adapter!Just install a "blank" version before restoring.

@thomas-braun Installed latest Ubuntu, restored ioBroker from backup (had to use latest beta controller to match with backup), but new installation of ioBroker is set for stable repositories. Everything seems to be working, including VIS. Having a bit of an issue with info adapter. It works for few seconds then turns red with error messages

Usually this would be reported as 'Issue' at the GitHub:
https://github.com/iobroker-community-adapters/ioBroker.info/issues
This may be due to the beta-version of the js-controller. Have seen similar errors with different adapters.
-
@thomas-braun Would it make sense to downgrade controller?
-
@ap2017 To avoid the errors that come with a beta-js-contoller I 'd recommend to downgrade. But it's not that trivial
Instructions on how to do a downgrade are only available in German, afaics.https://forum.iobroker.net/topic/66108/js-controller-5-0-x-jetzt-in-der-beta
