Hallo,
was ist besser langfristig? Eine Emmc oder SSD in den Rock64 ?
Ich wechsel gerade vom PI3b+ auf den Rock64 .
Bisher hatte ich eine SSD am Raspi.
Hab aber eine Emmc für den Rock64 mit bestellt.

Also ist die SSD die bessere und schnellere Lösung.

SD Cards sollen ja recht schnell Sterben beim einsatz von IoBroker wie sieht es da beider emmc aus?
Welche Erfahrungen habt ihr gemacht?

SSDs haben eine Firmware, die z.B defekte Speicherbereiche aussortiert, die Zugriffe verteilt usw.

emmcs haben das alles nicht so ausgefeilt.

Ich sage mal plakativ zur Lebensdauer: SSD > eMMC > SDHC-Karte

Das ist nicht ioBroker spezifisch und stimmt so auch nicht.
Bei mir laufen Systeme bereits seit bestimmt zwei Jahren ohne Probleme ausschließlich auf SD-Karte incl. History, teilweise im 10 Sekundentakt

Allerdings nutze ich Armbian.
Deren resize2fs nutzt nicht die gesamte Karte, sondern lässt ein paar Bytes Reserve um die Reparatur defekter Zellen zu ermöglichen.

Ich zitiere was gefundenes für den Raspberry zum Thema TRIM und Spare Blocks auf Sd-Karten:

The OS deletes a file and the blocks where the file resides are marked as available for overwriting in the FAT/MFT/whatever. The harddist or SD-card doesn't know anything at this moment. That's how all filesystems work. TRIM means that the OS also explicitly tells the harddrive/SDHC/whatever, that these blocks are no longer needed. So now it's up to the harddrive/SDHC-driver what is does with them. In case of the SDHC driver of the raspberry, it will issue an eraseblock command to the SD-card, since SD-cards don't understand TRIM. An SSD does understand TRIM and erases unused blocks in it's spare time, with minimal performance impact.

The erase command is needed for the SD-card to be able to do wear leveling properly. If not used the waer leveling pool might be depleted and the SD-card will wear faster than necessary.

I myself don't use discard, but have a daily cronjob running fstrim on the root partition.

Add the following line to your crontab:

Also an meinem Rock64 hat die eMMC genau ca. 3Tage gehalten;-) Allerdings hat Pine sie problemlos umgetauscht. Ist halt nur umständlich. Mit zurückschicken und warten mal locker 2Monate. Inzwischen hatte ich längst eine SSD installiert und für mich steht fest:
Nie wieder ohne. Und sieh dir die Preise von kleinen SSDs an, da erübrigt sich eigentlich die Frage.
Hatte auch eine eMMC (32GB) mitbestellt und werde sie jetzt verkaufen.

So mein Rock läuft jetzt auf der Emmc Karte. Mal sehen wie lange :relaxed:
Backup wird jede Nacht gemacht, so das schnell eine SSD drann laufen kann.
Hab ich vom Pi ja jetzt hier...
