Who is spoiling iobroker?
-
When I discovered a project called "iobroker" a few years ago, I liked it very much. I bought a small server and installed this tool.
Unlike other projects (e.g. Domoticz, HomeAssistant), it offered much greater possibilities. Or at least that's what I thought.
Then I had a break.
After a long time I came back... and I was quite disappointed.- The program is too difficult for people who want to start. So far, I can't do a few basic things - the lack of "beginner" materials doesn't help. The available descriptions assume that the reader knows the program very well... and if he does not know it, he is not able to use these descriptions.
- Online demo versions - for many months it has been just an empty link - either it doesn't work... or it doesn't work. Really no one noticed this?
- Tragic attachment to automatic translations. Perhaps an English or German version is acceptable. However, for me the native version - i.e. Polish - is at a tragically poor level. I once spent a lot of time making translations... and automatic ones are still used.
- From version to version, the system works slower and less efficiently. Colorful accessories appear... which look nice - but do not add anything. At the expense of efficiency. Is waiting for the script editor to open at a level counted in minutes (currently) acceptable?
Or switching between options and waiting for something to appear...
I remember the "old" version of the administrator panel. Everything just worked there.
I don't want to write anymore. I'm going to report the errors that have returned again...
I just don't know if I'll have enough self-control to stick with the iobroker project... -
Hello @mguc,
and "welcome back"
I can assure you that noone is spoining ioBroker - there are enough users that would fight this very hard
I want to comment your points:
to 1.) That the "onboarding process" of ioBroker is not the best I agree and this is known and we are working on improving this in many areas. But these efforts take time and so it will need time to improve here. usually the forum is a very good place to support new users.
to 2.) you mean https://admin.iobroker.click? Yes you are correct there seems to be an issue. Thank you for reporting, we will check it.
to 3.) All translations that you added - if added tothe adapter or weblate should be used instead of auto translated texts. We could check in weblate and the adapters, but this should be used as soon as an Adapter gets updated next. And thak you for your contribution.
to 4.) Ok this is very vague. There are no performance issues known or things that are slower then before. if you have examples please tell some more details and we can check.
Please report issues because only that way we can fix them. Thank you for your support.

I can say i saw performance problems with admin 6.8.0 on a windows tablet from a client. With earlier versions it was also a bit slow. But now it could need several reloads before objects, instances and log tab will load.
As the user part of the system hasnt changed that much, objects are not increased, also not more instances since a year.
I didnt had this with my own pc on the same system.
So i think the perfomance problems will hit mostly not that performant end devices. -
Hi @mguc
I agree with some points, nevertheless I'll comment some points either the precise them or to define some hints to get rid of them.
iobroker is a great project to get all of the different smartphone vendors under one roof.
However, this also makes it quite complex, as the different working methods and options have to be mapped. New adapters and devices are added every day.For a beginner it would be great to have a "how to start in small steps" documentation or at least a valid video instruction, as the community. most oft he time is strictly against any YouTube videos, which is understandable, as time and technology goes further, but it should be there.
Another important point would be, to anchor the results, solutions and approaches, that are discussed in the forum and come out as a result, in the documentation.
This like @mcm57 is managing it regarding his documentation of Jarvis (visualization).
This leads to an growing documentation and faq as the searching within the forum is sometimes kind of "difficult".Many users who make this criticism are usually asked by the project initiators to contribute to the documentation themselves; unfortunately, I still lack the knowledge, opportunity and access to do so.
That would also be a helpful hint on the website as to how you can contribute here and in what way.As a summary, I would agree with you, but at the same time I would invite you to continue to help us beginners and to continue to ask us to make it easier for you. As a long-time user, it is often easy to forget how difficult it is to get started. This is also (unfortunately) very often noticeable in the choice of language in the forum.
I can only encourage you to keep at it and ask questions.
Best regards

iobroker is a project that I discovered a few years ago when I was looking for a system to manage my home (based on PLC).
I tested several other solutions - but iobroker was definitely better than them (more convenient, more universal - and ... it had an adapter for S7 )
That's why I continue to support this project... trying to do something with it - but also to give something back.
And any comments (I hope) will only be beneficial for all users (especially beginners - because they are often forgotten).
So let's create and keep having fun. -
@mguc I totally agree and we are happy about any constructive feedback to get better and users reporting issues, so that they can get fixed

Hi,At your first posting you stated that you already helped translate ioBroker to polish at several places.
I would like to ensure that you are aware of WEBLATE translation service. Many adapters (but still a small percentage of all adapters) use weblate to enable a comfortable working on translations even fro non developers. So please feel free to read the documentation at
https://github.com/ioBrokerTranslator/doc/blob/master/translate.md
to register at weblate.iobroker.net and to correct bad polish translations. All changes will go into PRs for the corresponding adapter. But please note that they will be visible to you only after the maintainer merges the PR and creates a new release.
If you have any question or (later) want to know why some trabslation still is not visible feel free to contact me so that I can check.

@mcm57
I know about WEBLATE.. and some adapters fixed for polish.
