I’ve recently finished a small project where the probability of anyone else actually using it is approaching zero – but hope dies last, right? :D

I’ve developed a new adapter to track the presence of family members via a Cisco Catalyst 9800 WLC—built with a little help from Claude Code.

Why though?
If you’re like me and running a C9800 (whether it's a 9800-L, a virtual CL, or one of the big rack units) at home, you know that the controller is the "single source of truth." No ping delays, no "sleeping" WiFi connections without notice – if the controller says the device is associated, it’s actually there.

Adapter Features:

RESTCONF-based: Reads presence data directly via the RESTCONF API.

Automatic State Creation: Generates states per user for: Presence (boolean), connected Access Point, Frequency Band, RSSI, and SNR.

Easy Setup: Fully configurable via the Admin UI – no YAML editing required.

The Target Audience:
I’m well aware that the target group is... niche, to say the least. But if you happen to be part of the 0.00001% of ioBroker users running an enterprise Cisco WiFi setup at home and want to put this adapter through its paces, I’d love to hear from you!

Prerequisites:

Cisco Catalyst 9800 Series WLC.
Running ioBroker installation.

Important Note on Authentication:
The adapter requires your clients to be authenticated via 802.1X, as it pulls usernames directly from the controller's client table. If you don't have an external RADIUS server: Local EAP on the Catalyst works perfectly fine!

GitHub Repository:
You can find the code and installation instructions here: https://github.com/NurPech/ioBroker.cisco-checkpresence

I’m looking forward to any feedback – even if it’s just a "Why on earth would you do this?" ;)

Best regards,
Leonie

Because I don't have write access to the german section and havn't found any information on how to gain access to this.

Why do you post in the english section?
As far as I know you speak perfectly german - and if you want to reach a significant amount of testers, I would really suggest to use the german area.
There are very few english users here ...
